About
Emily Burke is a New York based makeup artist that specializes in beauty, editorial, and character design. From a very young age she was enchanted by the characters that came to life in front of her in film and TV. The idea of becoming someone else and delving into another person’s or creature’s life had always been something that excited her. As a teenager, she became very involved in her local theater and honed her art skills via painting, and continued her interest in the world of morphing the reality around her.
She aspired to become the talents that you see on the screen; however, she became convinced that she needed to live a more formal life and career path which lead her to attend a local college. She graduated with a Business degree in 2017, however she could never shake the yearning of wanting to create something with her hands and live her life through art. Inspired by the videos and pictures of all these characters and Avant Garde artistry she saw on social media, she realized that it was possible to make this her career. Through research, she found the accredited Mastery Program in the Makeup Designory in New York City, and spent 812 hours refining and practicing her craft. While there she designed makeup for a series of beauty and fashion shoots and designed a range of characters.
Now working in the field for 6 plus years, she has remained busy building up her portfolio. She earned the "Best Hair and Makeup" Award from the IndieX Festival in October of 2020 for her work on the short film, Shadows of the Night. She has also worked New York Fashion Week, many short films, and numerous editorial photoshoots included in L'Officiel Baltic, Selin Magazine cover, Genzo Magazine, and more. In the future she aspires to continue to make her mark in the film and television industry as well as continuing to expand her career in the print and fashion field. She continues to seek opportunities to bring new realities to young people and offer different escapes to make someone’s life a little more colorful.
